ADELAIDE, Australia: Babcock announced today that it has been awarded a $33 million contract to support the Australian Defence Force’s fleet of Ground Support Equipment (GSE), effective June 2018.
Under the seven-year Asset Capability Management agreement, Babcock will partner with the ADF to deliver improved availability and operating cost savings across the Defence Force’s 3,000-asset GSE fleet, at more than 20 locations across Australia. The partnership will create 16 new South Australian jobs.
“Babcock is the trusted manager of critically operational and complex asset fleets to the military and emergency services across the globe. We know that ground support equipment is critical to the operations of both commercial and military air operators, and we are particularly proud to bring our local expertise and experience with Qantas, to the ADF” said Babcock Australasia CEO, David Ruff.
“We have a well-defined, agile approach to asset management that is scalable across sectors, as proven by our support to critical operations in Defence, both here in Australia and globally. In terms of the latter, it is our intention to support the recommendation of Defence’s First Principles Review, and the ongoing Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group reforms, by bringing to Australia those asset management models that have been successfully proven in military operations and training in demanding environments. Our bid for the prestigious JP2060 programme is a case in point.
Babcock already provides a range of GSE services to clients including Qantas Group, the British military and both the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police.
“Providing GSE support for the ADF is a perfect example of what Babcock does best, which is manage critical assets and deliver complex programs,” said Babcock Managing Director – Land, Graeme Nayler.
“We have worked closely with Defence’s senior management over the past four years to assist in shaping the thinking of modern fleet management. Defence will benefit from access to Babcock’s experienced GSE implementation team, including the key people who have relevant experience from the recent Qantas GSE transition.
