Babcock Australasia has continued its rise up the ‘go-to’ list for Defence contractors in the Asia Pacific region.
The Defence and Emergency Services support company has risen two places, from 13th to number 11, in the 2019 ADM survey of Top 40 Defence contractors.
The higher ranking is based on an impressive set of contract wins in Australia’s Defence sector since the 2018 survey, which have lifted the company’s (Defence) turnover and its market share.
This new business includes contracts for the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) Counter-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (C-CBRNE) capability acquisition and sustainment; the first in a series of contracts for the design of the Attack Class submarine’s Weapon Discharge System; and, via its Naval Ship Management (NSM) joint venture – Australia’s first and only dedicated warship sustainment company – the asset class prime contractor role for the Royal Australian Navy’s flagships, the Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) Class.
NSM’s excellence was underlined by the award of ‘Naval Business of the Year’ at Defence Connect’s inaugural Australian Defence Industry Awards 2019.
Babcock was also awarded an extension of its contract sustaining the entire Royal New Zealand Navy, confirming its longstanding role as New Zealand Defence’s maritime strategic partner.
David Ruff, Babcock Australasia CEO, said, “This ascent up the ADM ladder is recognition that Babcock’s capabilities, built on proven operational excellence, are well-matched to the increasing complexity, criticality and tempo of Defence’s missions and outputs.
“Our model is based on highly competent, motivated and engaging people, bringing cross-sector capabilities, expertise and partnering behaviours that stand out in a highly competitive market.
“I’m also particularly pleased that the ADM list recognises that the ratio of female employees at Babcock Australasia has risen from 15% to 24%, which is not only a significant increase but substantially better than some of our bigger competitors who rank above us in that list.
“We are really looking forward to 2020!”
