Equipping Defence with leading edge C-CBRNE technologies
The Commonwealth of Australia’s (CoA) Counter – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (C-CBRNE) capability involves leading-edge technologies to prevent and defeat CBRNE threats used against Australia’s national interests.
Babcock’s C-CBRNE program is held with the Soldier Modernisation System Project Office (SMSPO) within the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG). The program supports Defence to manage existing and acquire new C-CBRNE capabilities, including equipment acquisitions, engineering investigations, maintenance and repairs. Babcock also supports Defence to identify new C-CBRNE technologies.
Our specialist teams are located across offices and warehouses in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney, allowing us to work closely with our customer to provide tailored solutions to challenging situations.
Our program implements a business model that simplifies the procurement, delivery and management of the C-CBRNE capability and involves product management across the entire asset life cycle, from acquisition of new capabilities to the disposal of old. It consists of several individual projects to acquire new C-CBRNE capabilities and conduct introduction-into-service activities.
We currently provide asset management services for 132 different types of C-CBRNE equipment under our contract with the SMSPO. We achieve this through strong engagement and collaboration with our Australian Industry supplier network, who are subject matter experts (SME) in their field, to contextualise the requirements of the project and place capability into the hands of end users across the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The C-CBRNE program also manages sustainment activities through the engagement and support of the same specialised SMEs. These activities look to ensure capability is maintained for Defence, providing value for money and managing the Total Cost of Ownership by utilising ‘smart buyer’ principles.
Babcock was recognised for its work in C-CBRNE when awarded Land Business of the Year at the Australian Defence Industry Awards 2023. The C-CBRNE program has continued its success, now selected as a Finalist in the Land Program of the Year category at the 2024 Australian Defence Industry Awards.
