Submarine services
Design and support of key systems for Collins Class submarines
We operate New Zealand’s largest marine engineering facility, providing through life support, custom design and retrofit, ship repair and marine engineering services for the Royal New Zealand Navy’s surface fleet of ships. We also provide marine engineering services for cargo ships, cruise ships, research vessels and super yachts.
In Australia, we bring together design, engineering, systems integration and platform management capabilities to ensure the fleet of Collins Class submarines are operationally ready and sustainable. As well as providing long-term maintenance support services for the Helicopter Landing Dock (LHD) and Anzac Class frigates through our Naval Ship Management joint venture company.
We understand the performance, risk, interoperability and governance frameworks that drive Government Defence contracts, and are experienced working with departments and briefing ministers. Babcock has considerable experience working with federal governments to deliver a broad range of marine services for defence.
Drawing on an unrivalled depth of naval and engineering know-how, our teams safely and efficiently support, and are trusted to deliver, complex and critical programmes on a vast scale. Among the major outcomes, we ensure our customers benefit from increased asset availability, improved efficiency and significantly reduced operating and infrastructure costs.
Testament to the strength of our long-term relationships is our involvement in all current and future UK naval programmes, spanning the next fifty years, along with successful, collaborative working arrangements with navies around the world, including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Korea.
Working hand-in-hand with our customers, our key asset management activities include deep maintenance, in-service support and through life engineering support for submarines, the deep maintenance and life extension of surface warships, upgrading, overhauling and managing equipment and critical systems. Babcock’s technology business supports these activities with engineering, design, systems integration and platform management capabilities.
We work with a number of commercial entities, from cruise ship and ferry operators, research entities, to cargo transport companies. Our experience with such a diverse range of vessels is unrivalled. We understand the need to adhere to timelines and budgets, which is why we spend time upfront on detailed planning.
Located within the New Zealand Navy’s principle base, all of our work is conducted in this secure and private location.
Our passion for vessels extends to privately owned yachts and super yachts. We apply a great deal of care and attention to the vessels in our care and go to great lengths to ensure that our work results in great performance and is precise in timing and budget.
