Babcock was a proud sponsor of team Propulsion from Brighton Secondary School, South Australia. Propulsion was crowned SUBS in Schools National Champions in 2018.
The SUBS in Schools programme allows students to explore the complex challenges of maritime engineering and hydrodynamics using coding and electronics as they design and build operational submarines and ROV’s. It was conceived in response to the Australian Government’s announcement of the $50 billion Future Submarine Program. It is the world’s first in-class submarine design competition.
Babcock understands the importance of STEM and continues to invest in local STEM projects and initiatives, particularly within schools and universities. It is our hope that these students are inspired to undertake careers related to STEM subjects, and may even work for us in the future. Besides sponsorship, a number of our employees engaged in a mentoring session with the team, which was a great opportunity for us to meet the students and to also provide industry insights and guidance.
Babcock was thrilled to have been part of their journey. Congratulations team Propulsion!
Babcock recently sponsored another team from Brighton Secondary School, Horizon, who were recently crowned F1 in Schools World Champions 2018. SUBS in Schools allows students to explore the complex challenges of maritime engineering and hydrodynamics using coding and electronics as they design and build operational submarines and ROV’s.
