Rob Doig
Dynamic Survey Team Manager (Marine NZ)
Rob Doig is proud to work for a company like Babcock that supports veteran employment.
For Rob, working for Babcock Australasia is ‘all about making those grey things go through the water safely’ and as a 24-year Navy veteran, he’s seen the results of what Babcock does from both sides of the hull.
Rob’s been working at the Devonport base for more than 13 years, following his long career in the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) which he started as an apprentice fitter and turner, and rose to the rank of Warrant Officer Marine Technician (Propulsion).
While his early dockyard roles involved a lot of planning and organisation to take projects into production, he’s found the skills and relationships he built during his Navy years serve him well in the current environment.
Rob said, ‘Knowing what’s required from the end user’s perspective helped me build robust and professional relationships with customer representatives, ship’s staff and fleet engineering authorities and maritime classification societies, providing guidance and recommendations to define Maintenance, Repair, Overhaul (MRO) works for RNZN ships.’
The sense of community and pride he experienced in the RNZN is matched by the camaraderie of working at the Devonport naval base, with a real sense of family. Babcock is where he wants to be.
